Event Management & Correlation

Event Management & Correlation

Why Choose Zenoss for Event Management & Correlation?

Zenoss provides that single source of information for system events, fault notifications and status changes across your entire IT infrastructure. The comprehensive set of event management features Zenoss provides helps you manage event noise across IT resources — compute, network, storage, converged infrastructure, virtualized and even cloud resources.

With Zenoss, you can work with events throughout their life cycle. Zenoss stores all events, including closed events, in a database so they are available for later review. Events are stored for 90 days by default, but you can also specify longer or shorter time periods based on your specific business needs. You can also forward events stored in the database to other IT systems in your environment as needed.

I can't overstate the advantage and necessity of having our critical events and data in one place. We worked hard to get people to understand the value of Zenoss' proactive monitoring strategy — and as a result, we've seen significant efficiency gains, fewer mistakes, and more satisfied customers.

Events are searchable, so you can quickly narrow your view to focus on a specific area of concern, such as a specific resource or specific text in an event summary. Administrators with appropriate permissions can acknowledge and close events or integrate with incident management systems to clear them automatically.

Zenoss also automatically deduplicates events. If an event occurs multiple times, instead of clogging up your event management console with hundreds or even thousands of events, Zenoss uses event classes and "fingerprints" to match identical events. Zenoss then simply increases the event counter, reducing event "noise," simplifying and streamlining your event management process.

Event Management & Correlation - Zenoss Top 10 Event Management Capabilities

  • Consolidation of events from multiple devices, systems and locations as well as support for two-way event acknowledgement
  • Deduplication that turns streams of identical events into single events
  • Infrastructure event enrichment that provides event context such as identifying services, groups and locations related to the event
  • Broad, agentless event collection support across servers, networking devices, environmental monitors, applications, databases and virtualization/cloud management systems
  • Assignment of new events to event classes for policy-based handling mapped to a common schema
  • Automatic network topology-based event suppression for layer 3 networking, prevents event floods from devices downstream of a failed connection
  • Notifications that send relevant events to interested parties at appropriate times and automatically suppress notifications during maintenance windows
  • Event transforms that provide customizable, extensible methods to enrich events with diagnostic information for aggregated meaning, additional filtering or extended context
  • Movement of less important events from the real-time interface to a historical database or dropping of less important events as appropriate

Global Operations Management

For large enterprise data centers that require multi-instance event management support, Zenoss provides Global Operations Manager in addition to its standard event management capabilities.

Global Operations Manager provides a consolidated view of events in a single event console from one or more Zenoss instances. Global Operations Manager capabilities include:

  • Consolidation of events from multiple devices, systems and locations into a central, enterprise wide event management view
  • Consolidated event console with direct links to devices, components, groups, locations, systems and device classes from the specific source instance
  • Replication of event updates back and forth between the source and target instances
  • Support for two-way synchronization of management activities (closing, acknowledging, reopening and adding notes to events) between the source Zenoss instance and the target Zenoss instance

Whether you are managing events in one instance of Zenoss or you have several Zenoss instances deployed across multiple geographic or organizational boundaries, Zenoss provides the consolidated, real-time insight you need into all of your infrastructure events — helping you more efficiently manage the performance and availability of your IT services.
