World's Largest P2P File Sharing Provider Delivers with Zenoss

Pando Selects Commercial Open Source Vendor Zenoss over Proprietary Big Four

2007/12/04 - Press Release

ANNAPOLIS, MD, December 4, 2007 - Zenoss Inc., a leading commercial open source IT management company, today announced that Pando Networks, a leading provider of managed peer-to-peer (P2P) media distribution services, has deployed Zenoss Enterprise to manage the configuration, health and performance of its mission critical IT infrastructure. Pando chose Zenoss for its ease of implementation, scalability imperative to their year-end goals, and affordability compared to other complete solutions.

Pando Networks is a small company on a big mission; to establish a new Internet infrastructure standard for efficient, secure and commercially viable rich media delivery. Founded in 2006, Pando has experienced explosive growth to a user base of over 15 million. "We are growing at a rate of almost 1.5 million users per month, and deliver over 130 Terabytes of data per day," said Laird Popkin, CTO of Pando Networks. They needed a monitoring and alerting solution that would grow with them. "We had outgrown the standard open source solutions that really don't scale to large, geographically distributed farms with hundreds of servers."

Popkin's objective as the CIO was to help company grow to 25 million users by the end of 2007 and he needed to deploy a proactive IT management solution that was highly scalable. "We needed an affordable solution that supported those goals" says Popkin. "With Zenoss we can track rates of document delivery, completions, cancellations, and installs to ensure that, at every level of our infrastructure, things are working properly - all this through a single monitoring and alerting system."

Pando had been using a popular open source monitoring tool and felt they had outgrown its capacity and needed deeper functionality. Pando evaluated the large commercial suites before selecting Zenoss. "We looked at Computer Associates (CA), among others. It was very expensive and it required a costly and lengthy professional services engagement," says Popkin.

Pando ultimately chose Zenoss because it offered the most complete, scalable and affordable option. Also, based on open source, Zenoss offered much needed flexibility and it did not require a lengthy professional services engagement to deploy and maintain. "We received initial help from Zenoss professional services and they were great," adds Popkin, "Since deployment, it has been very easy for us to maintain and customize Zenoss to fit our IT needs." Today much like Linux, the open source based Zenoss solution is established as one of the cornerstone technologies used by Pando in their IT department.

"Pando offers another great example of how traditional approaches to IT management fail to meet the demands of the next generation of IT-based businesses," said Bill Karpovich, CEO and Co-Founder of Zenoss, Inc. "We are happy to help them graduate to our commercial open source IT management solution as their business needs changed."
