ANNAPOLIS, MD, October 31, 2007 - Zenoss Inc., a leading commercial open source IT management company, today announced that UTStarcom, a Fortune 1000 global technology company, has deployed Zenoss Enterprise to manage the configuration, health and performance of its vast IT infrastructure. The selection of Zenoss enabled UTStarcom to quickly and affordably increase efficiency in terms of supporting their user base, enforcing best practices and ensuring conformance to standards. UTStarcom is a NASDAQ listed company with $2.7 billion in revenues, operating in the fast growing global market for IPTV, broadband wireless and wireless equipment. "We required the ability to globally monitor system usage, performance, event collection and alert notification, with basic reporting," said Ari Bose, CIO of UTStarcom. "The systems we tried out, including Nagios, What's Up Gold, Big Sister, MRTG, and Cricket, were geographically localized doing basic state monitoring and lacked the ability to scale to an enterprise solution." Bose realized that in order for UTStarcom IT to keep pace with the company's growth objectives, he needed his team to implement service level agreements with business and deliver proactive IT management. "We were operating in a reactive mode with no application or infrastructure visibility," says Ari. "With 70+ corporate applications supporting the business, spread over 500+ systems, it became apparent that a system was required that would enable us to be proactive in how we support our infrastructure, applications and end users." UTStarcom evaluated solutions from IBM, HP, Computer Associates, BMC, ProactiveNet, GroundWork, Big Brother and Zenoss among others. They found solutions from the large vendors were pricey with recurring annual costs and consultancy fees, and lacked the flexibility along with ease of customization they needed. "After an exhaustive comparative analysis of available solutions, we determined that Zenoss Enterprise was the only solution that fulfilled our requirements for an affordable, flexible, and scalable solution with rich functionality," added Bose.
