Press ReleaseLeading Health and Diet Products Company Trims IT Downtime with ZenossMedifast deploys Zenoss Hardware Appliance in one day and realizes ROI in 30 days2007/09/18 - Press Release
ANNAPOLIS, MD, September 18, 2007 - Zenoss Inc., a leading commercial open source IT management company, today announced that Medifast, a top company in the health and diet products industry, has deployed Zenoss Hardware Appliance to monitor its growing IT infrastructure and e-commerce application. The selection of Zenoss Hardware Appliance enabled Medifast to quickly deploy sophisticated IT management solution and helped align company IT with business objectives. Medifast is a NY Stock Exchange listed company with $80 million in revenues, with a large percentage of income generated from online sales. Customers of Medifast use its website to shop for products from a variety of categories that include shakes, bars, puddings, snacks and soups. After going public, Medifast experienced high demand for its products and increased sales volume from its e-commerce applications. Medifast's IT department was stretched thin, and it was operating in a reactive mode to keep up with increased business demands. In early 2006, John Hamilton was brought in as the new CIO to improve Medifast IT, while helping the company grow revenues to $160 million. "When I first joined Medifast, the company was working in a reactive mode to IT production failures," says John Hamilton, CIO of Medifast. "Medifast had grown very successfully, but its IT department was behind." John realized early on that Medifast lacked a dependable and scalable IT monitoring and management solution that could transform his IT department from a reactive to a proactive mode. He also wanted to deploy a Linux-based IT monitoring and management solution in an all Windows-based IT environment that was vulnerable to outside attacks. "When it comes to monitoring the health and performance of an IT system, there is no alternative to automated monitoring," said Hamilton. "Zenoss Hardware Appliance deployment option with Enterprise subscription allows us to catch performance issues before they impact our systems." Zenoss Hardware Appliance with Enterprise subscription was brought in and deployed within a few hours. Medifast was immediately able to automatically discover its IT networks and components, including a few that were not previously documented. Zenoss solution helped create a model based CMDB and enabled Medifast IT to deploy monitoring for business critical areas of the system. Flexibility of the Linux-based Zenoss Appliance provided full monitoring capabilities for Medifast's heterogeneous IT environment, and helped eliminate the need to deploy multiple tools. Medifast realized the benefits of Zenoss Hardware Appliance within a few hours as performance degradations were identified and production failures averted. "The return on investment for Zenoss Hardware Appliance was 100% realized within 30 days of the deployment," says Hamilton. "I was extremely happy to find a Linux-based IT management solution that could work in a heterogeneous environment and not be susceptible to Windows' security vulnerabilities." "Our goal is to provide growing organizations like Medifast with a new alternative for IT management, that better addresses with their technical and business needs," said Bill Karpovich, CEO and Co-Founder of Zenoss, Inc. "It's rewarding to see the results."
