Flexible management at service provider scale
Having the API to provision and monitor resources is invaluable. For example, Zenoss gives us the ability to personalize the UI to fit our unique requirements. Darrell Hyde

When you count the number of devices you need to manage by the thousand, you know how critical it is that your management software and processes provide support for large environments. No operations team can effectively deal with an event storm that turns page after page of the event console bright red. You need all the controls – simple de-duplication and suppression, functional event enrichment, powerful root cause analysis – or else you’ll miss something critically important.
When new VMs are provisioned in minutes with immediately-effective SLAs, you need automation to set up management just as quickly. And it can’t be hard to do. With staff pushed to the limit, you need scripting, command-lines, and web-centric APIs, not proprietary languages and development environments. Who has that kind of time?
As customers deploy services across several of your datacenters for latency reduction and disaster recovery planning, you need to understand customer services in a unified manner. When a big customer calls there’s no time to do cut-and-paste into Excel to try to figure out just what is happening.
A big part of each customer relationship is built around reports. It’s how you prove the value of your services. It’s critical to separate the real-time management from the analytic reporting so that report production and delivery doesn’t affect your ability to manage to minute-by-minute SLAs.
And simple raw device count scaling matters, too. When your sales team closes a large deal, you need to grow management with predictable costs. Adding a few hundred virtualized servers with their associated networking shouldn’t take a huge investment in management infrastructure, processes, or inordinate license fees.
Zenoss was built by people with service provider backgrounds. We know your unique requirements and built our product to meet your needs.
