Giving your customers direct access to management data about their services is quickly becoming an essential function. But each of your service offerings will have unique requirements for customer information access.
In a managed network infrastructure offering, you’ll want to report monitoring and tracking data. A significant challenge is managing overlapping address spaces. Customers using private IP address spaces in the 10.x.x.x, 172.16-31.x.x, or 192.168.x.x spaces will have devices that conflict with other customer devices. It’s important that you be able to keep the devices for each customer separate despite the duplicate identifiers.
When you’re providing infrastructure as a service, you may want to offer both real-time resource consumption data and historical usage reporting. With this access, you’ll be working with your customers to make sure they’re making the most of the money they’re giving you for the services.
Advanced infrastructure service offerings can give customers detailed information about application, operating system, and networking metrics for their specific devices. You may even want to allow customers to administer their own management. If so, it’s critical that device ACLs prevent one customer from accidentally affecting another customer’s services.
Application service providers will want to publish information about unexpected service downtime, selected application events, and overall response time issues.
Common across all of these needs is that no customer wants their data exposed to third parties.
